Overview
All students attending St Dominic’s follow the full National Curriculum and Religious Education. The work the students do is, however, adapted to fully meet their needs. Class sizes are small and each one has an SSA (Special School Assistant) as well as a teacher to enable students to access support quickly. The therapy team also attend a range of lessons to ensure that the students they are supporting are gaining access to all of the work. If a student has additional difficulties that cannot always be dealt with in a class-based lesson, arrangements are made to provide extra 1:1 help.
When students reach Key Stage 4 their learning takes place through following a personalised programme which includes access to a range of GCSEs, college placements and work experience, with the emphasis being on the student spending time on the subjects he/she can excel at. This work enables students to feel more confident about facing the next stage of their education.
