Seminars for Parents
Parents are offered support and training through a selection of seminars and workshops offered over the school year. In early September parents of new pupils who have come to the school over the past year are invited to attend a New Parents Seminar to introduce them to the Therapy Department staff and the counsellors. At this seminar links are made between the parents and the therapy staff working with their child.
Later in the Autumn Term, a Year Ten seminar is held. This is to introduce parents to the Key Stage Four Independence Programme. This is a joint initiative run by the Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy teams. Parents are informed about the ‘taster’ courses run by Guildford College that the Year Ten and Year Eleven pupils will attend. The work of the Surrey Connexions service is also introduced at this time to inform families about starting to plan future placements for pupils after Year Eleven.
During the summer term each year the therapy department runs a series of seminars on topics that may benefit the pupils and their families. Each programme consists of 2-4 x 2 hour seminars. Parallel courses are offered during the day and in the evenings. All the therapy disciplines give input into these seminars.
