Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 covers Years 4, 5 and 6 at St Dominic’s.

The class teacher takes a major role in delivering the curriculum at Key Stage 2 with the help of a full time SSA. Emphasis is placed upon the development of spoken language, Literacy and Numeracy. The School takes pride in its integrated therapy programme, where teachers and therapists work together in the classroom directing appropriate support. Therapy is included throughout the timetable, both on a class basis and through individual withdrawal sessions. ‘Early Birds’ sessions before classes begin offer a daily exercise programme, run by the physiotherapy team.
Subject specialists support the work of the department in PE, Music, Art, Spanish and RE. ICT is incorporated throughout the curriculum, with time available to use the Internet for reference purposes. The curriculum is modified and differentiated to provide students with a more functional learning programme, designed to help them operate at an independent level. IEPs are also a major part of the students’ education, with parents being regularly informed of their child’s targets. An incentive scheme rewarding the achievement of the weekly target is very much part of school life, and students’ successes are shared with parents in the home/school books, and celebrated with the whole school in Good News Assemblies.
